Post Valentine’s Day Detox

Despite how much we love and anticipate Valentine’s (or Galentine’s) day celebrations, we all feel a little bit guilty the day after.

Indulgence in food, alcohol, and sweets makes us wonder… ‘Now, what?’

You ate and drank what you usually don’t. Now it’s time to DETOX!

I admit, l gave myself the excuse too to have an extra slice of cake and one more glass of wine.

Hey! Valentine’s Day is once a year only!

Regardless how much you’ve tried to stick to your portions and have sugar and alcohol intake under control, you ate and drank what you usually don’t.:

It’s a good idea to give your body a little break, so it could DETOX!

How?

There are 5 different ways to do it. You can do one or all of them. The choice is yours.

#1 Drink more water!

One of the most basic things you can do for your body after a night of binging is to hydrate properly. Drink more water!

#2 Have some green veggie juices

Green juices, thanks to chlorophyll, are gut friendly, provide the body with more oxygen, help to restore the alkaline/acid balance, and support the body’s own natural detoxification process. Do you have a juicer or get your juices at your favorite juice place? Use a variety of green leafy veggies, herbs (cilantro and parsley), celery, cucumber or zucchini, lemon or lime for your juice. To make the juice more appealing to your taste buds add some chunks of pineapple (contains bromelain, a digestive enzyme).

#3 Focus on fiber rich foods

Consuming fiber rich foods during a detox is super important. Fiber is a kind of carb that is essential for your body, for its energy level. Eating colorful salads, legumes, add some chia seeds and flaxseed will also help your digestion.

#4 Reach for your favorite probiotics

Probiotics are a must if you want to keep your gut healthy and/or restore intestinal flora after binge eating. Some of my favorite sources for probiotics are: fat free unsweetened yogurt, kefir, kombucha (fermented tea, available in most supermarkets).

#5 Get more active

If hitting the gym after Valentine’s day feels too much, then go for a walk. I mean walk more. Staying active helps your body to detox, helps circulation and metabolism.

How long should your Post-Valentine’s Day Detox last?

I would say 1 or 2 days.

Although, you could keep the detox momentum going and make these healthy tips part of your lifestyle.
