Everyone is born with a particular body shape — and what that shape is makes a huge difference in how you should approach your weight management and weight loss.
Understanding your body shape is the first step in creating a personalized wellness plan: a personalized meal plan and a personalized workout routine.
You might have noticed that I’m emphasizing on “personalized” approach. It is because there are no two same people, same bodies, same preferences and same problems.
Similar yes.
Same not really.
That’s why YOUR wellness plan should be personalized.
But how to go about it?
“There are two types of body shapes: the shape you can change and the shape you cannot change.”
First, let’s get clear about the fact that there are two types of body shapes: the shape you can change and the shape you cannot change.
The shape you cannot change is the type of shape you were born with.
Identify it correctly and understand why fat accumulates in certain areas more than others can help you tremendously with creating your weight loss plan and save you from pain of frustration.
“Are you Apple, Pear or Proportional?”
There are basically 3 types of body shapes: apple, pear or proportionate.
Each type has a tendency to accumulate fat in different parts of the body.
Apple-shape body has more upper body fat. The fat cells in the upper body, including the face, neck, breast and waist behave differently than fat cells in the thighs and hips.
The upper-body fat that is held around the intestines which is seen on the outside as an increase in waist size is even more specialized. This fat tissue sends fatty acids to the liver and causes changes in insulin levels that affect how much fat you store versus how much fat you burn.
Losing upper body fat will not only make you look better but also improve your health tremendously.
But you can’t lose these special fat cells just by dieting, which can cause a loss of both muscle and fat. You have to change your lifestyle and exercise to build some lean muscle.
If you are a Pear-Shaped woman, you have lower-body fat, found on the hips and thighs. This fat is resistant to exercise and diet, if you have a low metabolism, you won’t be able to lose weight even when you cut calories. You have to take special steps to get enough protein to control your cravings and maintain or build your muscle mass to get the shape you want.
The solution is to get to your personal target weight and body fat level following a personalized plan that is created in respect to your original body shape — Apple, Pear or Proportional.
Following this personalized plan you will be able to judge how you feel about your new shape.
